The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Chateau Lake Louise on the banks of Lake Louise in the Canadian Rocky mountains

I was lucky to have a chances to stay in the Beautiful Chateau Lake Louise.

The Room:

We got room 447 a room on the 4th floor with a great view over the frozen Lake Louise.

Let me start with our room. The Fiarmont Chateau Lake Louise is an upper class hotel (believe it has 5 stars) so you expect something from you room.

Our room was nice and roomy it had with 1 bed a table / desk with a wired Internet connection and a nice bathroom.

The room also had it’s own save that you could program with your own code and one that was big enough to put your important belonging in (big enough to hold my laptop).

The Bathroom was not very big but big enough. It had a Bathtub, toilet and sink.

Our TV had a lot of options that i quickly looked at. It even came with a wireless keyboard so that if you wanted could use it to Internet (at an extra charge).

The room had a connection for my laptop and of course i wanted to use that ;) Normally this service cost almost 14 dollars a day but if you decide to join the “presidents club” then you can use it for Free. And the membership to the presidents club is free so why not join :)

The room was well kept but the duster could be used a little bit more often, specially the bathroom had a lot of dust on all it’s chrome parts.

Cleaning was done daily and they did a good job. but after a couple of days i wondered if we would ever find a chocolate or mint on our pillow (it never happened)

The Hotel:

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise has a big name and I have to say that it was nice to stay in a hotel where things are organised this well. The personnel is extremely correct and friendly. The hotel has a lot of services of witch i will list some now:

I will not go to detail of all these services (and i probably for got a few ;) ) But there are some that i would like to go in to a little bit deeper.

Let me start with the Pool. The indoor pool is nice but not to big, this is OK on week days but on saturday it was almost impossible to fit in the Pool. The same point is made for the Whirlpool, it was a nice one but it was basically just hotter water.

I was staying in Chateau Lake Louise with my wife who was here for a conference so i had a lot of time on my own. The Hotel has some nice shops to look at you can find things like a Photography store (with print service) a hairdresser, bookstore, jewelry store, clothes store and more so that makes it nice to just stroll around and enjoy the hotel.

Or course the outdoors is there to. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is situated on the shoor of Lake Louise. The lake is frozen between November and June and I our case it meant frozen enough to walk on it. So one day i got my snowshoes and of i was I crossed the lake to the other side and saw people ice climbing on a frozen water fall. There where lots of people cross country skiing on the lake. Often you can also ice skate on the lake but the ice rink was closed when we stayed there.

On the other side of the little village of Lake Louise there is a ski area  and the hotel offers a free shuttle service to the slopes. They also can keep your ski equipment in storage and even have equipment to rent. So if you like to ski then this is an extremely nice place to stay.

Lake Louise is just a tinny village with not really anything happening but they have the necessary stores and a helpful tourist information. And don’t forget Lake Louise is situated in the Banff National Park and is only 74 km from the village of Banff so ideal for a day trip.

Let me close this story with my conclusion:

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is an extremely nice hotel to stay at. The atmosphere of the hotel the surrounding are just impressive and i would say even if you are not able to stay in the hotel just go look at it one day when you are in the area.

I hope that we will find a new changes to visit this hotel, maybe next time when the lake is not frozen and then hike up to one of the six glaciers above the lake.

Car Wash

Car wash and the enviroment

We all know that it is better to drive to a car wash then washing your car by hand at home. It uses less water and it even recycles the water :)

But why do we keep our engines running when we are waiting in line at the car wash? If there is 4 cars in front of you do you really think you need to be able to start driving right away?

Just stop the engine and start it again when the line moves it will save you some fuel and you don’t dump all those fumes in the air.

I think I love my wife

Chris Rock and his movie i think i love my wife

Last night we went to see the new Chris Rock Movie “I think I love my Wife” It is only playing a couple of days and still there where only 5 people in the theater (we where with 3). And that amount of people give a good picture how BAD this movie is.

The movie revolves around a guy (Chris Rock) that is married and has two children and don’t get enough sex.

Then an old girlfriend shows up and all kind of not funny stuff happens.

I think People like Chris Rock need to focus at what they are good at and not trying to do everything themselves. With this film Chris made the screenplay was the producer and played the main character. It is to much and that all made this one of the worst movies I ever saw.

My advise don’t bother to go see it in the theater and if you want to see it wait till you get it for free with a pack of popcorn.

I think I love my wife is not worth your time or money.

The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

This is an amazingly imaginative book. The story is simple, it revolves around a young man named Toru Okada, who is unemployed and lives with his wife. His wife’s cat goes missing and with this starts a spiral of strange events in Toru Okada’s life, resulting in him looking for his wife who also goes missing and his chance meeting with fortune teller and her sexually attractive sister.

Great book, will keep you gripped throughout!

Second Cup Stephen Ave. Calgary, Two thumbs down!

Unfortunately there arent any coffee shops along the Stephen Ave. Walk in Calgary, which has forced us on two occasions to vist the Second cup here, address below. I was so horribly dissapointed with the staff, on both occasions they were rude, insipidly blank and unhelpful, and the drinks and eats were only so-so. Our coffee drinks were cold, the hot chocolate tasted like nothing and the cookies were old. Infact when asked if the promotion drink was any good, the wait staff answered saying that she had never tasted any of the drinks there, makes one think why!! hmm.. Avoid this place as much as you can.

White Oleander

Ok I admit this is an older movie (from 2002), but i happened to see it again and it reminded me of how impressed I was with it the first time.

Its a dramatic story told by a 15 year old girl named Astrid, on how her life is strongly influenced by her mother, a powerful characted played by Michelle Pfieffer. When her mother is put in jail for murder, Astrid is thrown from foster home to foster home to juvenile halls. Over time Astrid learns that not everything her mother taught her was true.

Good movie to rent.

Chicago Deep dish pizza in Calgary

One of the few really good pizza’a I have eaten in Calgary.

The large pizza’s are very big, and its truly a thick slice of pizza. These pizzas come with various unique and tasty toppings, and the price is really not bad for the amount of food one gets.

I was very happy with this company, the food and the delivery time (right on the dot).

Peter’s Drive Through in Calgary

This is a one of a kind fast food joint.

Its ALWAYS busy, which in itself is an indication of good food, and on warm days there are many benches that one can sit in the shade and enjoy a good meal.

The food is simple, homestyle burgers and fries with milkshakes or pop. Fries are very large as are the milkshakes. The burgers are tasty and satisfying.

The few negative things for me are the lack of a salad on the burger, and the prices which are quite steep for such simple food.

Although, nothing prevents us from indulging in this place on a nice hot summer’s day!

Boogie’s Burger in Calgary

WOW! Very well recommended

Great burgers, with real bread and any topping you want including fried mushrooms and a fried egg!

I was not so impressed by the Yam fries however, they were more like yam chips! All in all it was a very good experience.

“Little Miss Sunshine”

I would love to say that this is a feel good movie, however its none of the sort. I would classify this more as a dark comedy.

Olive is a very special girl who lives with her mom, dad brother Dwane and grandpa. Her parents are always working to keep food on the table, although most times they eat take out fried chicken. Her mom’s gay brother who had recently tried to kill himself, comes to live with her family, thats when Olive finds out she has been selected to compete in the “Little Miss Sunshine” pagent in California. Under the supervision of grandpa Olive had been practising for this very occasion, so the family piles up into their old Volkswagen bus and hit the road. The wierd social aspects this family shares with each other will make you laugh throughout the movie, as will the “real life” sadness in them bring tears to your eyes.
