St. Croce church Florence, Italy

This church looks very simple and unassuming from the outside, however on the inside its a whole different story. The art inside is beautiful, its very large, one cannot tell from the outside this vast space exists on the inside. The entrance is free also to the museums, galleries, tombs and other small chapels, which is different from most other places in Florence where you have to pay for everything.

There are volunteer guides inside which give you as much information as you need, and are more than willing to tell you more if you ask. The galleries and museums have amazing paintings, and the church itself contains tombs for famous persons such as Michelangelo, Galileo, and Dante.

On the outside the monastry has a nice walking area and the ambience is simple wonderful. I highly recommend you visit this place when in Florence.

Wild Hogs

Wild hogs the movie about motors

Ok this is a stupid but very funny movie. I had a chance of seeing it on a long flight, and i must say it got me laughing out loud and kept me entertained. The story is very simply 4 funny guys in the 50’s are tired of thier boring lives and decide to ride their motorbikes across America. They have many adventures, including being labelled as gay, finding love and making new enemies. Tim Allen and John Travolta are very convincing.

A funny movie, that can easily be rented or order a copy of Wild Hogswild hogs at Amazon.

Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver surfer

Fantastic four, Rise of the silver surfer

Ok, we didnt have extremely high expectations from this movie, and it gave us just that. The script was bad, the acting was really bad and the plot, well there really wasnt any. I can easily say you should rent this movie on a really rainy cold day, with lots of popcorn and other distractions.

The story is about a silver surfer who is destroying earth, and the Fantastic 4 who have their own problems are trying to stop him, in the mix is added Viktor, who for some reason (unexplained) is alive and well. The surfer reveals his agenda and lack of choice, and all in all the world is saved, even though Susan does die once!

If you rent this movie, you are probably still paying too much.

Bridge to Terabithia

A must see movie by all.

I really loved this movie, although set up for children, it has many aspects that adults might enjoy. The fantasy world of Terabithia was so real and I really loved how real life characters and problems all became incorporated into this growing and changing world.

THe special effects are ok, rent or go see it.

Shrek III

This was the worst of the 3 Shrek movies. It tried to show the insecurities felt by a guy (ogre) who is about to become a father, however didnt come out as quite convincing. It felt like the directors were trying too hard to outdo the second movie (the best of the 3) however failed miserably. The 3 princesses that helped Fiona fight Prince charming were very funny, and of course Charming was great as usual. Donkey was a father of 3 Dragon/donkey hybrids (when did this happen?) and puss with the big sappy eyes was a tired and old ploy.

I recommend renting this movie.

“Pizza Marzano” Paris, France

Pizza Marzano
2 Place St. Michel
75006 Paris

Oh my god what a nightmare this place turned out to be. We had been looking to going there for a few nights, and finally decided it would be a great place to eat especailly considering its location (St. Germain/St. Michel, overlooking the Siene and Notre dame cathedral). When we sat at our table, we immediatly noticed that our wine glasses were extremely dirty, mine had lipstick marks from the customer before. We asked the waiter to change these, which he did, replacing them with slightly less dirty glasses, and mumbled something about problems with the dishwasher. Then we ordered our food, the appetizer arrived almost immediately, which was great as we were all sharing it, and were famished. The food however did not arrive for 60 minutes, and when it did, my pizza was very good, but my friends whom had ordered pasta dishes, got burnt charred food. We politely returned the pasta, and were told it will be replaced. In the meantime we all tried to eat my pizza, which tasted quite good. After 20 min their pasta arrived, this time it looked good and the Lasagne even tasted quite good.

When finished 1hr and 40 min after we came in, the waitress was very sarcastic and told us she would bring us our check, unfortunately gratuity was already calculated in to the price, I would have so not liked to tip them.

Perhaps this was due to a large party they were catering to in the corner of the restaurant, or perhaps this is usual for them, in any case when in Paris avoid eating here, its a waste of your time and money.

Il Ciocco, Barga Italy

I was at this fantastic location for a conference this month, I have to say absolutely amazing experience. Word of warning beofre I start, I was given all the good treatment a conference delegate recieves, this may or may not be true if you are planning to stay there on your own without affiliation to any group.

The location was amazing, set right in the heart of Tuscany on a hill, very close to the little town of Barga, this hotel had everything one could ask for, good food, good service, a large outdoor pool (with a cute pool boy) a gym, and clean comfortable rooms with great views of the valley. Most of the hotel staff, spoke or understood English and were more than willing to be of assistance. Various trips to Barga and Lucca were organized by the hotel, and everything was on time and as expected. The only problem is, this hotel is up on a hill, far away from any kind of shopping, so if you are staying here, make sure you bring everything you need for the stay, shopping for simple things such as aspirin etc.. may be impossible.

Highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel Scoti Florence

Let me start by saying WOW great location. This pensionne was only a 10 min walk from the Florence railway station, and situated on one of the most fashionable streets in Florence. Infact the hotel was right above the Prada and Gucci showrooms. Most importantly, the city sights are all 5 min walk away from this location, great for quick trips to the Duomo, or bridges across the Arno.

The room although small and smelly at first, was clean, with clean sheets, and large windows which one could open and bask in the warm Italian sun. The bathroom was huge and very modern, clean and completely functional. There was a phone line in the room which one could use to receive and make calls, and call the hotel staff for anything (front desk was non-existant). We got keys to all the doors to the building, hotel and rooms, making it easy for us to come and go as we please.

Anything negative, this hotel made up in their hospitality, the owner “Doreen” was absolutely amazing, she provided us with comfort and service to make us feel right at home, I was provided with a hair dryer, and plastic cutlery and plates within minutes of calling. She was more than willing to let us settle our bill the night before, as we were leaving super early in the morning, as well, we were able to easily split the hotel bill on two credit cards. The only negative thing i can think of is when we booked we were made to undertand that breakfast was complimentary, however upon getting there were were informed that in fact it cost 5€ each and started only at 8:30. The hotel staff seriously apologized for this error and promised to correct it with the booking agency.

All in all, I was very happy and content with my stay here, and will definitely be staying here again when in Florence.

My Hotels Galilei, Pisa

My hotels pisa

I chose this hotel due to its closeness to Pisa airport, i was flying in late and needed a place to stay for the night. I was there on June 2nd 2007. The plus side was that it was relatively close, the minus was that it was across a huge highway, and only accessable by taxi.
I would definitely give this hotel high points for style and design, I arrived late, so the restaurant and room service were unavailable, but I had the choice of getting a sandwich at the bar. The room was clean and neat, and had 3 beds, there were enough blankets and the beds were comfortable, my wakeup call was right on time.
Breakfast was included, and was pretty good for Italian standards, good amounts of toast, fruits, juice and cereal. They also had a full selection of English breakfast, seeing as 90% of their clientelle were British, this was probably a good thing.
They had a free shuttle service (which you need to sign up for) to the airport, which ran almost on time.

All in all, I was very happy with this hotel and would stay here again.

You can Book this hotel right now by going to Booking.
