Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis

Yes Mere Christianity is about religion and believe but still even if you are not in to these kind of things it still is a book everyone should read one time in their life.

The book is based on Radio Lectures C.S. Lewis gave in 1943 in the middle of the World War II the lectures where meant to help the people of England through the difficult days of the war.

Mere Christianity is not an easy book to read and I could not do more or less then a chapter a day everything more or less got me confused. But this book really is an eye opener for people that think they believe and for people that think or know they don’t. C.S. Lewis is not trying to convince you that believing is the way you should go and he also doesn’t tell you that they bible is the only right book.

What C.S. Lewis does in this book is making it clear how believe should work and it shows you where you really are in your believes. In my case it helped me realize where my believe is and it also showed that it is closer to where i want to be.

I would really advise to read this book once in your life it can take a while to get through it but it is worth it.

Go see you bookstore or library for a copy of Mere Christianity.

The Big Happy - by Scott Mebus

The Big Happy a book by scott mebus

Yes it is true never rate a book by it’s cover. But i did i got The Big Happy from the library just based on how the cover looked.

The Big Happy is a story about a guy who left a good paying job in television to become a writer. And David (the main character) is a strange man and the story brings all kind of strange stories up.

I would say that i didn’t really like this book at all but there is some hidden powers in it that i can’t explain that wants you to keep reading this book.

Maybe one of you can explain why this story has such a strong power to make you keep reading.

Although i didn’t really enjoy The Big Happy i wonder what you all think of it. Please read it and tell me what you think. Just check out your local Library or order a copy of THE BIG HAPPY online.

Wish Club

Wish club is the first book written by Kim Strickland. And I have to say Wish Club is a fun book to read.

The book is about a group of woman that are part of a book club and they try out some witchcraft and from there things turn in to a interesting story. The girls all make wishes and find out that even a simple wish is more difficult then you think it is.

Wish Club is a fascinate read that keeps you sucked in way way in to the story. The book starts strong but the further you get to the end it start to loose momentum.

But still Wish Club is a great way to spend a rainy day. A fun read for everyone looking for something nice to read.

Check out Wish Club in the book store or you public library.

Jpod, by Douglas Coupland

Jpod is the second book I tried to read that is written by Douglas Coupland the first one i tried was “The Gum Thief” and I had to give up on that one it was do difficult for me to follow. With Jpod I did better and i even finished it :)

The story of Jpod is about a guy Ethan who works at Jpod a where they develop computer games. From there the book go’s all over the place from drugs money to trips to China and from Ballroom Dancing to acting. Jpod is a strange book to read specially because the book also has a lot of pages that don’t really ad to the story. Like pages of pi and lots of letters to Ronald McDonald and of course they add something to the story but the story is the same if you skip them.

At this point in time i have to say that reading Jpod was fun but in a strange way. And after reading Jpod i don’t think that another Douglas Coupland book will be at my to read list for a while.

If you like strange stories and a bit of tech then maybe have a look at Jpod it will definitely keep you busy for a while ;)

check out a great deal on JPod at Amazon.

Fair Game, by Elizabeth White

I got a copy of this book at our local library and i basically choice it based on the cover. And after have said that I can say honestly that this was a great find.

Fair Game tells a story about a girl that comes back to her home town after she finished her studies to become a veterinarian. She comes back with her two kids with the dream of starting a wildlife rescue center. The piece of land that she had in mind is owned her grandfather.

That piece of land that Jana’s (the girls name) wants to have is also a must have for a old high school crush of Jana named Grant Gonzales who wants it for starting a hunting camp.

And that said you know the basis of the book. Elizabet White did a great job creating an intriguing story around this. Of course lots will happened between the two main characters and i have to say that this book makes you think about how people get stuck in there own believes but still can be great for each other.

I would say go get yourself a copy and see if you enjoy Fair Game as much as i did.

Check you local library or maybe find a copy of Fair Game on Amazon.

‘28 stories of AIDS in Africa’ by Stephanie Nolen

This is such a heart wrentching yet eye-opening, and educational book.

Stephanie Nolen, a journalist for the Globe and Mail, has in simple yet poweful words described the vastness of the AIDS/HIV epidemic which is rapidly killing off hundreds of thousands of people in the African continent. She has written stories about 28 people whom are living with AIDS in Africa, one each to represent the 28 million people living with AIDS in Africa today.

The immediate thoughts that come to mind when reading this book are: Courage, hope, and a sincere motivation to become personally involved in helping however one can.

A must read!

“Northanger Abbey” by Jane Austen

This book is a timeless classic. Although not as famous as the other acclaimed Austen books such as ‘pride and predujice’ or ‘Emma’, its a masterpiece in itself.

The story is simple and revolves around the heroine ‘Catherine Morland’ whom is visiting Bath with her neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Allen. In Bath she meets many interesting people including the Thorpe family, of whom Isabella Thorpe and she come to become best friends. Interestingly on her first night in Bath she meets Mr. Henry Tilney whom captivates her heart and keeps her on her toes, anticipating their next encounter. As the story unfolds, many new frinedships are made, some to last, and others to result in dissapointment. Eventually, Catherine is invited to visit Northanger Abbey where she is under the constant supervision of General Tilney, where she experiences exhilaration and betrayal.

All in all, a lovely book. I highly recommend it.

A weekend with Warren Buffett

a weekend with warren buffett by Randdy Cepuch

If you are interested in the stock market and what happens at Shareholder meetings then this book is one you should have a look at.

Randy Cepuch offers you an inside view on Shareholder meetings. And if you are like me one of those people that like stocks and what comes with it but never visited a Shareholder meeting then you will be interested to read this book.

Ok i expected to hear more about Warren Buffett but after reading the book i can’t say that i am disappointed in the book. The book gives you a lot of information about what happens at Shareholder meetings and how different they are from company to company.

Cepuch did a lot of great research and tell you about almost everything from the free coffee to the demonstration outside or from the missing Freebies till the free paint samples.

My advice would be if you like easy to read books that tell a interesting and still funny story then have a look at A Weekend with Warren Buffett: And Other Shareholder Meeting Adventures

‘Into the Wild’ by Jon Krakauer

Into the wild

This book has become my number one favorite. ‘Into the Wild’ first came out in 1996, its written in first person by Jon Krakauer, a world renowned mountaineer, and ice-climber, and author of the well known book ‘Into thin air’. In this book Jon reiterates the life of Christopher J McCandless, a young man who hailed from an affluent family, however frustrated with his life for various reasons, decides to life off the wild. After donating all of his law school college funds to Oxfam, Chris assumes the name ‘Alex Supertramp’ and lives the life of a loner, a vagrant, and a vagabond. Finally, after burning all the cash he has in his pocket, and abandoning his car, Chris ‘walks into the wild’ when he goes to live off the land in Alaska. After 110 days that Chris took to the Stampede Trail, his starved, decomposed dead body is recovered by hunters in an abandoned Fairbanks Transit bus #142 in the deep woods. This book, is written tremendously well, Jon explains carefully and accurately the journies undertaken by Alex and recounts some of his own life experience to give insights into what may have caused Chris to give a perfectly normal life and choose this so called ‘death wish’.
A profound book, with immense wisdom, and deep silence. Now a major hollowood movie directed by Sean Penn, and music by Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam.
