Orange Julius Light Smoothies

Yesterday we all had our changes to try the new Light Smoothies at Orange Julius.

And I did try them I actually tried two and let me share with you what I thought of them.

First of all OK they call them Light but they still have 250 Calories so if you use them to loose wait maybe they are still not your best choice. And then it is sweetened with Splenda and I don’t know how healthy those artificial sweetners are.

You also may wonder what is really in this smoothy? I noticed they used some juice, ice, water and a bag of magical powder. So I would think if you are really in to the healthy part and want the light because you want to watch your callory intake maybe it is just better to stay away from even the light smoothies.

If like me you just like the flavor of it then I would say go for it and enjoy. Let me tell you how they tasted.

First I got the Tropical Sunlight it looked nice an yellow and tasted a lot like pineapple and to me that is great because i like pineapple a lot. For me this smoothies was to sweet and specially on a hot day when you want to cool down this would be to sweet for me and would left me with a giant thirst after. For me you could ad more water or ice to make it better. But it is personal so don’t hold me accountable for it :)

Then I went for the Berry-Pom Twilight this one seemed thicker in consitancy then the first one but maybe it was just the way they prepared it. The flavors of this smoothie is good with tastes of lots of berries and it is not so sweet and that made me enjoy this one much better then the first one and this would be my pick next time.

Besides the two flavors I tried they also have Strawberry delight that i didn’t try yet but this one could be great as well.

If you like Smoothies then I would say go give them a try. And if you are interested then go have a look at THIS COUPON to get 1 dollar off.

A&W Calgary Airport

We all have the crave sometimes for a quick bite to eat. So did I today when I droped someone of at the Calgary Airport. The food court at the airport has a wide variety of food places but for me my eye felt on A&W.

It was not very busy in the food court but there where 3 security people in line at A&W and after that it was my turn to get my mozza burger.

The burger came quickly and the friendly staff helped me getting my food.

I was pretty happy with the food quality but sitting in the food court at the airport is kind of a boring thing. It is never busy there and there are lots and lots of tables. I almost think that this is the part of the airport where you see the least people.

But if you ever in need of a quick burger at the Calgary Airport then maybe go give the A&W a go.

Salt & Pepper Restaurante Mexicano est. 1988, Cochrane

We were in Cochrane this past weekend and decided to brave the snow and stay for lunch.

After looking into a noisy neighbourhood bar and grill (we had a 4 month baby with us), we decided to go across the street to Salt & Pepper instead.

Since it was a snowy day, parking right in front was not a problem, however I am sure in the summer, there may be some issues of where to park.

The restaurant itself was empty, we were the only customers, but mind you it was a sunday afternoon in the middle of the holidays. We were greeted by a very friendly waiter with a lovely hispanic accent. We were promptly seated and given menu’s. The menu looked good, and we ordered some appetizers and coffee.

The ambience was very nice, it was an older house that was converted into a restaurant. The temperature was perfect and there was ample room for us three adults and an infant. Infact, at one point I breast fed my child, and that was quite convenient in terms of space and privacy as well.

The food was quick to arrive, and very very delicious. The coffee was fresh, and even had a hint of cinnamon (which when asked the wiated explained, that they brew a stick of cinnamon in their coffee pot). We ordered dessert with 3 spoons, very delicious. The price was very reasonable, and extremely affordable, especially given the good quality of food and excellent service.

I am glad to know that there are two of these restaurants in Calgary, I look forward to visiting them on my next dinner outing. In the meantime, if you are in Cochrane, I recommend you go visit Salt and Pepper on 114 3rd Ave W.

A&W Southcentre Mall ground floor

Lunch yesterday was A&W and because I was at the southcentre mall it was kinda logical that I would eat there.

Southcentre offers 2 A&W restaurants one in the food court and one on the ground floor next to one of the entrances. This review is about the one on ground floor.

Ordering at A&W went fast the girl had problems with my coupon but eventually it all worked out and now i just had to wait for my food. The girl forgot to ask me if i would eat there so she put everything in a bag.

I ordered the 3 Chubby Chicken Strips combo meal and I expected the breaded chicken strips to be crispy but that did not happen the chicken tasted good but no crispness what so ever it made me wonder if the chicken was lying around to long.
The rest of the meal was made well and so i still got a meal i wanted although some crispness would have bin nice.

The nice thing about this A&W is that it offers seating so now you do not have to sit in the food court but just in the nice A&W ambiance.

Everest Restaurant, Kelowna

Everest Restaurant
573 Lawrence Avenue
Kelowna, BC V1Y 6L8, Canada
(250) 762-7000‎

If you are looking for good Indian and Nepalese food in Kelowna, give this place a try.

We called and ordered ahead (one member in our group knew the owner). When we got there, the food was ready to be served. We were all seted comfortably (6 of us, on person in a wheelchair, and a baby stroller).

The appetizers were very good, with large portions and good quantity of dipping sauce (chutney), however the foor (cream balls and paneer) had the same sauce and hence tasted the same. The bread was very very good.

The presentation of the food was quite exquisite and the overall ambience was nice, with low pleasant music and a good ventilation system.

I would surely visit here again, and I recommend to it anyone who is looking for indian food in Kelowna.

Milestone’s restaurant, Market Mall, Calgary

Probaby a month ago, I was invited to a work lunch at this restaurant in Calgary. I have visited a few other Milestone’s restaurants in the past, and have always been quite happy with the food and service.

This location in Calgary is fairly new, and I was going there with a baby stroller. The restaurant itself is quite nice, its clean and spaceous, even large enough to wheel in a baby stroller. They managed quite well to seat all 18 of us together, and even found a place where I could put my baby in her stroller close to my seat.

The food, as always, was simply excellent, very well prepared and presented, tasting quite good. We had a lot of appetizers, salads as well as a few entre’s.

The waitstaff although curteous, were very lost, perhaps due to the newness of the place. Our waiter seemed a little too hyperactive and frazzled, however all in all he tried hard to keep us all (18 of us) comfortable and happy.

I would definitely visit this restaurant again, and recommend it to others. Perhaps give them a month or two to settle down and get used to the business first.

Applebees in Calgary

I have visited many Applebees all over the US and Canada. I have liked them quite a bit in the past. This time on my birthday we decided to go to the Applebees on Country Hills Blv., the only one in Calgary.
We were there around 3pm on a thursday afternoon, and so needless to say, found parking right in front of the door. We were grateful for this as we were bringing in a baby in a stroller.
Once inside the greeting staff, seemed a bit lost and confused, they didnt know where to put us with a stroller and all, and so for 5-7 minutes we stood at the front as the girl frantically ran around cleanign tables and muttering inaudible stuff we couldnt understand. Finally, she took us to the back, and we realized she was looking to put us in a quiet spot with lots of space. Good for her!
The wait staff, and server were very friendly, very curteous and very caring of the fact that we were here with a baby, they even split our food, which we were sharing into two plates, so it would be easy for us to each eat our meal without having to reach over, all this with a baby.
The bathroom was quite clean and the change table functioned well and was clean.
The only complain I have is with the food, it was barely palatable, and the quality has gone down lots since I have last visited an Applebees. The Nacho’s nuevo were quite good however.
All in all, even though this restaurant has been attached to a family tradition (my husband and I allways went to an Applebees for a meal when we rented a car, yep we have rented quite a few cars :D), I must say I will pass on this restaurant in the future. Either we will need to stop renting cars, or look for a different place to fulfill our family tradition.

Blenz Coffee house, Kelowna

I visited the Blenz coffee house on Bernard Street in Kelowna this past week. I have been to this cafe a few times before and have really liked it. I have found it to be a good alternative to the Starbucks one block up on the same street. Although its a franchise, and I would anyday prefer to visit a locally owend cafe rather than a franchise, I find this particular coffee shop a good choice. Firstly, it is a Canadian company (Go Canuks!), and secondly its new and doesnt have the crazy hype that Starbucks has associated to its name.
So this particular visit, I happened to go there with a baby in a large stroller, and 4 other persons, one of whom was in a wheel chair. Despite our crowd, we found a perfect spot in the coffee shop where we could all sit together and have a pleasant time. There was lots of space for the wheelchair as well as the baby stroller, and we managed to find chairs to pull up to the two leather armchairs.
The only few drawbacks are, this place didnt have a baby change station so I had to get help and change my baby on the sink in the bathroom, not very convenient or hygenic, and secondly the drinks, although very tastely are very pricey, pretty much comparable to Starbucks.
But if you are willing to pay a good price for a drink, dont have a baby to change and are looking for a nice ambience, I would recommend you visit Blenz coffee house.

KFC, Southcentre Mall

The KFC in Southcentre mall is based in the foodcourt but a bit away from most restaurants. When I got to KFC at lunchtime on Thursday it was not very busy there was just one lady infront of me so my order was taken quickly.

I orderd a classic combo that has a chickenburger and fries and drink. The fries where put on my tray right away while the burger still needed to be cooked. To me it would have bin better if the fries could have stayed a bit warmer instead of cooling down on my tray.

The Chicken burger was not bad taste wise but less vegtable mix could have bin nice now i needed to peal a lot of the vegtable mayo combo of because the pack was just to much for this one little burger.

My conclusion. I don’t know what will be on my food list next time I visit Southcentre mall maybe I will try a different place for lunch. But KFC was not to bad so it will keep being an option.

A&W Sunridge Mall Calgary

The A&W in Sunridge Mall is the first restaurant in the food court but not to many people seem to be eating A&W on the day that I visited this A&W lines to other food places are long but at A&W I got helped right away.

Today it is a Mama burger meal and that also shows up really quickly. I look for a nice place to sit and start with some of my fries with some of the ketchup (they gave me two little bags). The fries are not that great, and the reason is simple they didn’t get cooked long enough so they are kinda raw and raw fries are never a great to eat.

The burger is good with the toppings it should have and nice and warm.

So what will I do next time. yeah after the KFC experince in this same Mall A&W is definitly a step up but still not like any A&W you can get in a normal restaurant.
