You probably know by now that if I write a review I found something negative to say but let me be positive today.
So I started to play a bit of squash and till now I used a real old racket that my wife got from someone YEARS ago so it was time for me to start looking for something better. On Saturday we visited a SportChek store in the south of Calgary and i saw a nice Dunlop racket there but i decided to look around a bit because i thought it didn’t come with a protective cover.
So back at home i was still impressed with this nice Dunlop Racket that was only like 50 dollars so we decided to look at a different sportcheck on Sunday just before we would go play Squash to see if they had one with a cover. The SportChek we went to was the one in Market Mall and this Sportchek is a lot bigger then the store we visited on Saterday. They had a lot of racket but non in the price range i saw the day before. And i saw a nice Dunlop Squash Racket that looked like the one from the day before but now it was only 99 dollars almost double then the one the day before.
So i decided to ask one of the SportChek people about it. The SportCheck employee was very helpful and try to figure out what the right price should be. He called a couple of stores including the one we thought i visited the day before but nobody could give him a clear answer. By this time i found out that he was one of the store mangers and he decided to price match me the racket any ways. Then he checked if it came with a cover and apparently it didn’t but still he gave me a great Dunlop cover for the Racket.
And today when doing a bit of research for this review i found out that the racket i saw on saturday is in fact a different racket that costs 50 dollars (on the SportChek website) and this means that i got a great deal and great service.
My conclusion is that if you need sport equipment from one of the big stores then check out the SportChek in Market Mall there the staff is still interested in the customers and willing to help you with all your questions.

Last Friday at 7 P.M. I decided to go buy myself some shorts. I went to Sport Mart on the Country Village Road NE in Calgary. There was a staff of 4 and they where all enjoying themselves hanging on the counter. I was the only customer in the store but still non of the 4 even acknowledge me.
The store has a nice layout and covers most of the standard sporting equipment. So I found some shorts that I liked and went to the fitting room. this (the first fitting room from the front of the store) had some dust bunnies as big as a tennis ball in them and to me that means that they don’t clean that often.
A well the shorts fitted and so i went to pay. No problems there only why was the staff arguing who’s id would be used for this sale???????? To me nobody deserved a commission any ways because nobody even tried to help.
So my conclusion about this sport Mart (based on a couple of visits). This store is handy if you know what you want and DON’T need any help if you do need help go find another sport store because in all the times i visited this store non of the staff was up to answering even the simplest questions. One time i was looking for snowshoes and non of the staff even knew what snowshoes are.

If you like comic books then you should have a look at Another Dimension comics in Calgary they have lots and lots (and i mean lots) of comics and all that is related to that.
Another Dimension is a nice and clean store with lots of Comics on display or nicely boxed so that you can easily find what you need. Next to the Cartoons you can also find memorabilia like statues and stuff like that.
The staff is very friendly and seem to know what they have to offer.
So if you need a comic check them out there is a big chance that they have what you don’t find easily some where else.

I was in the market for a couple of running shoes, and because I never really ran before, a friend of ours told us that we should go to the Running Room.
So we decided to visit the Running Room closest to us, the one in Crowfoot Village here in Calgary. It was a busy Sunday afternoon and there were only two store associates on shift. That said, I was impressed with how the two ladies were able to help all their customers at the same time and still give each customer the right advice and time they needed.
As you may already know from reading my other reviews, I am a bit picky
and this time was no different. Because I have a bad ankle, I’ve always been happy with the Nike air cushioning principle, but because the Nike models in this store didn’t feel right or were not in the right size, I needed to have a broader look. I was kinda happy with an Asics shoe but still not sure. The lady associate offered to check if other Running Room locations had different Nike models in stock in my size. They didn’t, so she advised me to go to the competition on the other side of the street (just because we wanted to start running today).
That store didn’t give any real service, but I finally got my hands on the Nike model I wanted to try and it was not what I wanted.
For me that meant going back to the Running Room. After all that, I ended up with a nice pair of Asics shoes and will start running later today.
I would say to the girl who helped me, thanks for all the help and good luck with the pregnancy.
For all of you out there who need some new running gear, go check out the Running Room. The one I like is:

Yesterday evening around 7 I walked in to Rona in Calgary (90 Crowfoot Way NW) looking for a power tool
Ok finding the power tool section is not hard but then……. you need some advice to what you need. And that is where it all starts where is all the personnel??????
I see one but that is the one kid that is doing the till (yes only one till is open with a huge line behind it).
hmmmm. after walking through the store i finally find somebody that seems to work there, but of course he doesn’t know about power tools but he will page one for me.
Unfortunately nobody with knowledge shows up. But there is another Rona person walking in the power tools section. So i asked him for advices. We talk for 5 minutes or so and my final conclusion was that he also didn’t know what i needed
so i went with the product that I thought was the right one.
Rona I really like your stores and the products you carry. I could go to Home Depot that is much closer to my house but they never seem to have what I need. But please try to get some staffing in on the busy hours of the day and maybe train a couple more for power tools so that people like me don’t have to buy the wrong product (I bought the right one) there where at least 5 more people in the power tool section looking for help when i was there.

Remember our post about the Sandisk Sansa 8.0gb MP3 player?
The MP3 player got damaged
ok it was our mistake we droped something on it and the casing cracked
But then we contacted the insurance and it was not covered
but ok I called Sandisk and asked what it would cost to get a new housing and they said that they don’t have it and that they don’t have spare parts. So i asked him what to do and there answer was short and simple “buy a new one” but this mp3 player was just a little bit older then 1 month and it still worked fine.
After not being very impressed with the way Sandisk helped us i wrote the head office of Sandisk a letter (a real paper letter) and that is almost 2.5 months ago. And they didn’t have the decency to even reply to it.
To me a long time Sandisk customer this means that this of course was the last time i ever bought something with the Sandisk name on it and i would advice you all to do the same. If customers are this important to you then i guess you don’t need us at all.
So if i was you all i would say first look for another brand and if there is no other option………

Today I went on a quest for a LCD monitor for my computer. I wanted a wide-screen that could do at least a resolution of 1600 x 800 so that meant 20 inch or more.
I looked around and brought a visit to Future Shop in Coventry Hills in Calgary. The guy that helped me there was kinda pushy but not as much as you see in some other future shops in Calgary (specially the one in NE is bad). And he gave me some things to think about.
So Basically it came down to a 22 inch Samsung or a 20 inch LG. But then i asked him what kind of video adapter i needed to come to the maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050(that both screens support). Then the guy showed me some video adapters but ALL didn’t support the wide screen resolution. And when i pointed that out to him he said that it would not be possible to get that resolution in Windows ??????? so that surprised me even more but i let him talk. He got very defencive and at the end i just cut it of.
It was very strange that they put some one in a department that doesn’t know what he sells and for me this store will not easily be on my route. Let’s try a different Future Shop next time.
Lucky me
i got my 20 inch Samsung from Staples (next door to Future Shop) the KID that helped me there was very helpful and together we looked for the answer to my question. So now i got a new Video Card (and it supports 1680 x 1050) and a new Samsung LCD monitor.
If people of Staples read this i would say GOOD JOB i will be back next time. And for the Future Shop people i would say Train your people how to deal with Customers and maybe give them some product knowledge
