Coast Mountain Sports (10 AVE), Calgary a *REVISIT*

Coast Mountain sports on 10 ave SW in Calgary

Normally we didn’t do revisits in reviews but maybe we should start doing Revisit reviews to see what happened in the past. Remember our previous Coast Mountain Sports Review?

Last time I mainly wrote about the shoe department but this time we go to something different.

I was looking for a bear Bell and saw them at MEC (across the street from Coast) for 2.75 and thought that was a great price for them. But I had a gift card for Coast Mountain sports so i decided to try my luck there. At Coast the same Bear Bell was 3.99 so of course i didn’t want to pay that much for it :) I asked a girl and said they price match at checkout. So I looked a bit more around in the store and then went to pay.

There I told the girl about the price difference with MEC and that the other person told me they would price match it. At that point the girl walked away with my bell and returned a bit later without it and said we needed to wait……..

And that was all she said nothing more happened for minutes and minutes and then finally she went back to the back and came back with my bell and gave me the discounted price.

The whole experience was a bit strange there was not conversation at all between those wait and payment don’t know much about customer service but to me this didn’t feel like service at all it more felt like you want this bell then you need to wait till I say you can have it.

It is that Coast Mountain Sports is across from MEC so when you can’t find something at MEC this is the easiest place to go but other wise i would not bother bringing them a visit.

Yes, Coast Mountain across from the MEC is a strange place. In the shoe department, there are various young kids, who know VERY little about the footwear or outdoor activites, BUT they are nice kids. Except for one fellow,

To say he is strange is an understatement. I have dealt with him twice and watched him with a friend once. He tries to pretend he is knowledgable by making blanket statements and declarations, some of which are simply FACTUALLY incorrect. ie. “No, that shoe does not come in a mid height, it is low only. You’re thinking of another shoe.” When in act, it is available, and you’ve seen it in other stores, they simply don’t carry that model. He’ll continue making snipey, passive-agressive comments and then baffingly, try to hard sell you. As if he has won you over??? The last time I tried on a boot, even though it was his strong suggestion and one I’m not interested in. (I had clearly explained why…I was looking for a lighter trail model, I already HAVE boots of that class I am very happy with). Trying on the boot, it clearly did not fit. My heel slipped, and it felt uncomfortable in the arch. I basically said (with an unhappy face), “no…this one is not for me…it feels funny and it’s slipping in the heel”. A minute later, I had them off and I’m talking with my friend when he suddenly says, “so, should I take these up to the front for you?” When I looked at him stunned (not angry, just shocked) and said “uh…no…I….they’re really not what I’m looking for”. He just looked annoyed/angry, like I had wasted HIS time. I didn’t even want to try that model on! I had asked for something completely different, he simply kept saying how great they were and how I should try them, after he brought them out without me asking! Then he said absolutely nothing and simply walked away. It was awkward and I vowed right there that I was not going back.
