“The bucket list”

I have to say, it truly has been a long time since a movie really reached out and touched my soul (or perhaps its simply pregnancy hormones, i dont know).

This movie is a simple feel-good movie about two very ordinary men. Often slow moving and cliche, and even though it didnt make it big in the box office, I believe it packed a powerful punch.

Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) and Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) are two very sick old men, the difference being Carter is poor and black, and Edward is rich and owns the entire hospital in which they happen to become roommates. As the story unfolds, the two realize that they have very little time to live, and decide to go with an idea Carter had as a college student. For a class in college Carter was asked to make a so called “bucket list”, a list of everything he would like to achieve before he “kicked the bucket” so to speak. So they go off and have lovely adventures together, growing closer as friends, learning more about each other and the other’s role in their individual lives, and in the lives of those around them.

My favorite line in the bucket list was “kiss the most beautiful girl in the world” and they joked about who would kiss two grumpy old men. That’s when Edward meets his estranged daughter, and realizes he has a grand-daughter, she is the most beautiful girl in the world that he kisses. :-)

These were my favorite dialogues from the movie
Ewards reveals to Carter, that to get into Egyptian heaven you have to truthfully answer the two questions “Have you found joy in your life” and “have you brought joy into someone else’s life”.
(Edward writes this in his last letter to Carter) “You once said you’re not everyone. Well, that’s true-you’re certainly not everyone, but everyone is everyone. My pastor always says our lives are streams flowing into the same river towards whatever heaven lies in the mist beyond the falls. Find the joy in your life, Edward. My dear friend, close your eyes and let the waters take you home.”
