Mountain Restaurant, Lake Louise

At first glance, Mountain Restaurant looks like just another diner next to the highway, BUT looks deceive in this case. Okay, it is off the highway and next to an Esso gas station, but once inside the restaurant you are treated to a great view of the mountains. You forget that you are sitting so close to a mundane parking lot.

I guess Mountain Restaurant lives up to its name with this picturesque view. ;)

We got here on a Saturday afternoon after driving back from the Columbia Icefields. It took a bit of time to get seated. After that we got asked only three times for our order by three different people, all of whom seemed to have an Australian accent. :)

The food came quickly and was good quality, and the atmosphere was nice. I especially liked the furniture, made from heavy wood and finished with a thick layer of varnish.

My conclusion is that if you’re in Lake Louise and want to have a nice but quick meal, then Mountain Restaurant will not disappoint. Just be aware that it could be pretty busy since there are few choices in Lake Louise.

Ate there the first day at Lake Louise on 06/18/2007. Looked like a decent place, but it had a Korean ambiance. Not thinking of it, I gave it a try. Had the burger and my party had a salmon. Not bad, but not the greatest for the price. But the next 2 days proved that they only cater to Koreans, not Americans or otherwise. Tried to get a table for breakfast. The first waitress tells me there is a problem with the “fans”. Another waitress tells me it is closed because they are catering to a big party. As I left, a tour bus with Korean patrons arrived. I decided not to come back, but I figured to give them one more shot. The next day, I stopped for dinner. There were 12 open tables for 4 available. One of the waitresses was friendly and even joked with me at first, then walked off. Another waitress then tells me that the wait for a table will be about 1/2 hour. I asked there were empty tables and why the long wait, but she jumped in to say they had reserved them for a party of 25. I told here that there were more than enough tables, but she said sorry, I would have to wait. Needless to say, I walked off telling them I would never set foot in that restaurant again and I would make it known on the internet. I went across to the gas station and was there for a good 15 to 20 minutes and saw no party of 25. But I did see a lot of people entering and leaving the restaurant. Bottom line: AVOID THIS RESTAURANT! THE SERVICE IS HORRID! Go to the Lake Louise Inn less than a 1/2 mile away and go to the upper floor for the best food in the whole area!
